The McPherson Museum and Arts Foundation, located in beautiful McPherson, Kansas, features many unique exhibits, including historical artifacts, meteorites, Ice Age fossils, Native American pottery, and fine art. We are currently housed in a 1920 Tudor Revival home. Some of the rooms on the main floor evoke the ambience of its former splendor. The original blue silk wallpaper from Germany still graces the dining room; window seats in the living room are a great place to soak up the afternoon sun while admiring the baby grand piano and fireplace. Find another charming window seat on the second floor landing, an excellent vantage point for viewing the many Birger Sandzen lithographs and original art pieces. (Mrs. Vaniman, the original owner of the house, was a student of Sandzen’s.) The second floor houses Native American art, Ice Age fossils, meteorites, and the first visible man-made diamond. It’s also home to the museum’s research room. Third floor’s pioneer room features domestic arts, such as butter churns and spinning wheels. The African room displays art and tools from various African countries, as well as one of the original MGM mascot lions. Third floor is also the home of the Learning Center, a place for families to learn together. The McPherson Museum is dedicated to providing you with a unique learning experience as you examine unusual pieces of history. We apologize, but the house is not handicapped accessible. There are 3 stairs at entrance level, and no elevators to the second and third floors. We do offer off-site programs within the region. Please call for the list of programs available.
